"Any damn fool can navigate the world sober. It takes a really good sailor to do it drunk." - Sir Francis Chichester when asked why he carried so much alcohol on his solo sail around the world.

2021 LMSS Q Race

FINALLY!! I was able to race the new Bootlegger. This past weekend I participated in the LMSS Q Race and was able to get a 1st to finish and a 7th in fleet. It was a race with a lot of first: first time I had seen any to the sails that I used up, first time to race the boat, first time I raced with Steve G (I originally planned on doing the race sole, but I trashed my back so I switched to the double-handed class), first time using the repaired autopilot, etc.

The Q race starts in Racine, WI goes to the south NOAA weather buoy, about 35 miles, and then back to Racine for a total distance of 70 miles. The wind was anywhere between 0 and 12 kts...until we finished when it picked up.

Another first was that a buddy of mine, Nathan J., started and finished in his first short-handed race as a boat owner. Congratulations Nathan
